Electrolux was founded in Sweden in 1910 as ‘Electromekaniska AB’, and specialised in the manufacture and sale of vacuum cleaners. The company’s initial success was largely based on home demonstrations. In 1919, the company merged with Lux and in 1957 it became known as Electrolux.

In the 1920s, Electrolux was a key innovator in the field of refrigeration and, when two young engineers invented the absorption refrigerator, Electrolux ensured that the product was developed further and then mass produced. Since then Electrolux has become one of the world’s most famous brands of refrigerator and freezer, and now commands a 28 percent share of the global home appliances market.

Today the Electrolux company owns many major quality brands, including AEG and Zanussi. Electrolux continues to develop new and exciting household products, and has a fantastic range of fridges and freezers, many of which are available to buy online.
