There are many brands and models of upright freezer available. With more and more people buying frozen foods or freezing fresh foods, separate freezers are becoming more popular then ever.

When buying an upright freezer you will need to know which size will suit you best. Tall freezers offer multiple drawer storage, and often include one or two larger boxes or drawers for bigger items such as poultry. For people who are looking for something smaller, there are under the counter models that have three or four compartments only. Sometimes a small upright freezer provides useful extra storage space when kept in an outbuilding such as a garage.

Freezers have a star rating, and the higher the rating, the longer the food can be stored for.

Upright freezers can include features such as integrated ice trays, a Super Freeze function for fast cooling, a frost-free system and transparent drawers and/or compartment flaps that make it easy to see where everything is at a glance. There are also upright freezer models that use a sound or an indicator light to warn of high temperature rises, and some even have pizza compartments in the door. Other upright freezers are equipped with adjustable feet for stability, and reversible doors that can be arranged to suit your kitchen layout.

Upright freezer prices vary depending on the size and features of the appliance as well as the brand, and can range from around £80 to over £800. Running costs can also vary from model to model depending on the energy rating: A is the top rating and the most cost-efficient.
